New Contact Lens Colours To Match Your Outfit

Views : 2        By : Timothy Capper zero times read

Contact lenses have come a long way from when they first started becoming trendy. It would take about six visits for measurements, then the fitting of those hard round discs that were so awkward in the beginning. The person had to build up daily wear by 2 hours each day until they could be used for an 8-hour period. It would take an additional half dozen visits to make sure the lenses were conforming well and the cost back then was exorbitant.

The field of Ophthalmology has come a long way.

The lenses of today are divided into two categories, rigid gas permeable and soft. The soft contacts consist of a soft polymer-plastic material, which is mixed with a percentage of water. This allows oxygen to pass through the material and help to increase eye comfort wear time. There are even some that provide UV protection. If anyone has had the rigid, they can understand how much more comfortable the soft ones are when inserted.

Most soft contacts are designed to be disposable. The ability of having a fresh lens does help with reducing infection, less cleaning and of course, more comfort. With rigid lenses, debris and oil may cause the lens to become cloudy and no matter how much you clean it, it is very difficult at times to thoroughly clean them. There are still soft lenses that are worn on a yearly basis and are not to be thrown away.

Even though there are some disadvantage to soft contacts such as being able to absorb lotion or even soap from an individual's hands, and they are far more fragile than the hard version and can easily tear if the person is not careful. One solution to the film that can be left on a soft contact is to make sure that the hands have been thoroughly washed and rinsed before handling the item.

There are now newer versions of contacts on the market that have improved upon the latter ones. They include the daily disposables and silicone extended wear disposables.

The daily disposables are soft contact lenses and worn for one day at a time, after which they are disposed of. This benefits the wearer by not having to clean the lenses daily. If someone has a problem with irritation caused by the cleaning solutions, anyone that experiences dry eyes or are allergy sufferers, then this is the lens for them.

The silicone extended wear disposables are also soft lenses that can be worn for up to 30 days. The new material, silicone hydrogel allows the wearer to also sleep in these contacts. This material also prevents build up deposits and helps reduce irritated dry eyes. Most eye doctors will still tell the patient that it is better to even remove these lenses at night just to give the eyes a rest.

In the soft contact category, there are coloured lenses that can be offered. The visibility tint is lightly tinted in case you drop your contacts, you will be able to find it; it does not change the eye colour. The enhancement tint enhances the natural eye colour. The tint changes the eye, with many tints to choose from. The light-filtering tint is for sports fans or athletes. They mute and enhance some colours for better vision
